STEMACAD

ADULT PROGRAM

Urban Ed is taking a proactive stance on helping to create employment opportunities and fill the pipeline of IT talent. Our workforce development training program has evolved to our new STEMAcad which is an initiative to help those that are unemployed and underemployed penetrate the high-demand, and well paying IT sector. Veterans, dislocated workers, and ex-offenders whether first time or returning to the community are also encouraged to apply for our program. The goal of the program is economic security by preparing participants to get globally certified in specific IT occupations and specifically be ready to work in a variety of IT career pathways. Our STEMAcad expands our courses of study to include network engineering, cloud computing, cybersecurity, computer programming, and of course our baseline training in computer support. Those completing any Urban Ed program of study will be highly trained and eligible for global IT certifications and direct job placements.

Urban Ed’s curriculum is driven by its partnerships with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Educate, Cisco’s Networking Academy, Microsoft, OpenEDG, uDemy for Business, and uCertify’s global elearning systems. Our delivery is a comprehensive, high-quality curriculum that includes live instructor training, hands-on learning labs, e-learning and remedial support to ensure successful job placement. Information sessions are held at Urban Ed, 2041 MLK Jr. Ave., SE, Suite M-2 (still virtually due to the ongoing pandemic). The fall 2022 course calendar is available here.

Contact us for more info on our tuition and fees for both the classroom and online courses of study. Depending on funding, tuition is subsidized for eligible applicants. Applicants can also receive training vouchers through the DC American Job Centers located throughout the city. Youth ages 18-24, may qualify for paid training stipends. Urban Ed considers every application for enrollment. In addition to the application for enrollment, candidates may be required to complete an essay if they are seeking subsidized tuition. Preference is given to the following:
  • DC Residents
  • Candidates between the ages of 18-30, given preference but all ages welcome
  • Unemployed and underemployed residents from the DMV
  • US Citizens
  • Those with at least a GED/HS Diploma

During these continued unprecedented times Urban Ed is still open for business and all classroom and online IT cert courses are continuing; however, only in a remote delivery. New courses and career pathways have been introduced for 2021. Our work with middle and high school youth is also continuing through digital learning plans. Enrollment is still open and also done remotely so now is an excellent time to reskill or upskill for the ever growing demand for IT pros. We have shifted all physical classroom sessions to a live daily virtual delivery and still offer our mentored self-paced online courses covering many in-demand career pathways.
