Jan 12-15, 2021, PD Week!
An EXCITING WEEK FULL of professional development for our students! Engaging over 40 expert volunteers from Computer Futures, eSimplicity, SThree Plc, and Synack Corporation, Urban Ed had a packed week to help students with mock technical interviews, live computer programming & other advanced training, “day in the life” sessions with experts working on specific careers, and a special LinkedIn workshop to advance their hiring networks. This was a powerful and insightful week for our students and corporate partners!

Sep 8, 2018 Career Breakthrough Day!
This Career Breakthrough half day was packed with hands-on career advancement workshops and mini bootcamps on cybersecurity, business development, software development, cloud technology and IT support. The event was hosted by the American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) in partnership with Urban Ed to provide opportunities for Urban Ed students and alumni to gain new skills from experts in the field as well as network and find new professional mentors.
2015 Annual Celebration of Hope!
Our 15th Annual Celebration of Hope was held on October 29, 2015 at the Executive Dining Room Penthouse overlooking the White House and Washington Monument. This night was filled with Limitless Possibilities!

Our 14th Annual Celebration of Hope was held on May 1, 2014 at the Kellogg Conference Center at Gallaudet University. This was our best event yet, full of hope and inspiration!
11th Annual Event & Graduation Ceremony
Urban Ed held a special graduation ceremony during our 11th Annual Event on October 3, 2011. The event was well attended and marked another major success for Urban Ed’s program delivery. Our STEMACAD was launched in Feb 2011 and we have developed an approach to help the unemployed gain four global technology certifications and secure entry-level jobs earning at least $17-$19 per hour. Our success shows much promise for the future of our IT training and for helping the unemployed gain sustainable employment, breaking the cycle of poverty!

2nd Annual St. John's Cup
The St. John’s Masons sponsored their 2nd golf tourney to help raise funds for Urban Ed. The event was held on April 29, 2011 and was a huge success raising over $13,000! We give a special thanks to the masons for hosting this event exclusively for Urban Ed. We also thank our event sponsors that included PREMIER sponsor RSDCGroup and our 2nd Degree Sponsors, General Dynamics and Fairfield Systems. Sponsors and all the individual golfers made the event a true success and Urban Ed students, staff and board members sincerely thanks the St. John’s Masons!
10 Year Anniversary Event
Urban Ed celebrated 10 years of successful service to the community on November 3, 2010 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. Happy anniversary to Urban Ed and its dedication to building hundreds of pathways to prosperity! Open House
Urban Ed held an open house to share the excitement of our new training and education facility located in historic Anacostia. The event was held on October 29, 2009 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Seven is the year of completion and after enduring many challenges and many inspiring successes since 2000, Urban Ed has reached a major milestone on our journey to build community. We are now preparing ourselves for 8, the year of new beginning! 5th Annual Event
Monday, June 27, 2005 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the City Musuem. Marking a major milestone for Urban Ed we celebrated 5 years of building prosperity for members of our community. Honorees for our Men and Women of Distinction Awards included representatives from Smart Triangles, Inc., Booz Allen Hamilton, Allied Telecom, and the mother of Urban Ed’s president, recognized as a special honoree for being a lifetime woman of distinction.
Fox 5 Morning News Feature
Thursday, February 24, 2005 @ 6:00 am – 9:00 am at Urban Ed. As part of Fox 5’s Gimme A Break series, Urban Ed was one of the few organizations selected to receive this honor and be featured on the Morning News. Part of the break Urban Ed receive was one year of IT courseware from SkillSoft and technical training assistance from the Geek Squad.
Citywide Sports and Talent Competition
Tuesday, August 3 @ 2004, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Ridge Rd Recreation Center This event was held in southeast DC and was part of the closing activities of the “40 Days of Increased Peace”. A multitude of activities took place including performances sponsored by WPGC.
2nd Annual Men and Women of Distinction Awards Celebration
May 6, 2004 @ 6:30 pm at SunTrust Bank
Highlights of this year’s event included a Jazz performance by Amafujo Moodswing, two youth Keynote Speakers, a silent auction of art, clothing, computers built by the youth and the presentation of the 2004 Distinction Awards. Our 2004 Honorees included Darnise Davis of Close-Up Productions, Inc., Jeannie Jones of WKYS-FM/ Radio One, Inc., Steven Oriol of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Andrew Pagley of Doceus Incorporated, and an Urban Ed long-time staff member, Deidra Prophet. This was truly a powerful event and we thank SunTrust Bank for being our Premier Sponsor. Other sponsors included: Silver – DC Lottery, Standard Office Supply, Claudia Askew Communications Consultant; and Bronze – CGH Technologies, Doceus Incorporated, Freddie Mac Foundation and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.

Urban Ed truly appreciates all the support we have received over the past years. Many have been instrumental to our growth and outcomes and our last event was dedicated to honoring a few of our key supporters. Five corporate and philanthropic leaders were honored from Bank of America, DC Chamber of Commerce, DC Department of Human Services, Freddie Mac Foundation, and SunTrust Bank.

With a year of success behind us, we’ve gained much momentum and support and this event was well attended by over 100 business and community supporters.
All Girls Sports Festival

This day was for the ladies educating them about health and fitness and self-esteem! Activities included basketball, volleyball, cheerleading/dance and double dutch competitions.
Open House
February 21, 2002 @ 12:30 pm at 2683 Douglass Road, SE
This well attended event was held to allow the community at large to see and feel the energy behind the state-of-the-art computer lab. It was a well attended event and was hosted by Bank of America and the Washington View Tenants Organization. Our special guests included Councilwoman Sandra Allen and Mayor Anthony A. Williams.
