🌟 YOUNG MOTHERS OF COLOR IN IT

A SPECIAL STEMACAD PROJECT

A 3-Year Initiative Empowering Mothers of Color in Tech

Urban Ed’s newest initiative, the STEMAcad MOCIT launched in 2025, is a bold 3-year project designed to uplift young mothers of color (ages 18–30) in the Washington D.C. region and beyond—through tech training, mentorship, and wraparound support.

💡 Why This Matters
  • 👩🏾‍💻 Women of color are underrepresented in tech; less than 3% of the workforce.
  • 👶🏽 Young mothers face unique challenges in accessing education and employment.
  • 🏘️ Supporting these women benefits their families and communities over the long-term.
🚀 Our Project’s Purpose

To equip young mothers with tech skills and career pathways that lead to economic freedom, while supporting their whole family’s well-being.

💬 Voices of Our Female Grads

Urban Ed has provided me so many resources & guidance to open doors I had no idea could be opened! I’ve landed my first job contributing to tech at the U.S. EPA and I am so excited and grateful for me and my baby girls! — KhalaV, Urban Ed Graduate 2024

Urban Ed helped me become diligent, resilient, and innovative. Despite facing personal challenges, I gained the confidence and skills to earn my certification and achieve financial stability. Today, I’m proud to be working with federal agencies to help support America’s national security. I’m better off, my family is better off and I never thought this type of life was possible. I owe it all to Urban Ed! — DakeiaW, Urban Ed Graduate 2023
